Our Commitment to Privacy

ClawPad is built with a privacy-first philosophy. We believe your conversations with AI should be private, and your data should remain under your control. This policy explains how ClawPad handles your information.

🔒 The Short Version

  • Your data stays local — All conversations are stored on YOUR device
  • API keys are encrypted — Using machine-specific keys, not cloud storage
  • No telemetry — We don't track your usage or collect analytics
  • No cloud sync — Your private data never touches our servers

1. Information We Don't Collect

ClawPad is designed to minimize data collection. We do NOT collect:

  • Your conversations or chat history
  • Your API keys or credentials
  • Usage analytics or telemetry
  • Personal information or identifiers
  • Files you attach to conversations
  • Your topics or project information

2. Information Stored Locally

The following data is stored only on your local device:

2.1 Conversations & Messages

All your chat messages, both sent and received, are stored in a local SQLite database on your computer. This database is located at:

~/ClawPad/clawpad.db

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.

2.2 API Keys

Your API keys (for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, etc.) are encrypted using Fernet symmetric encryption with a key derived from your machine's unique identifier. This means:

  • Keys are encrypted at rest
  • Keys can only be decrypted on the same machine
  • Moving the database to another machine won't expose your keys

2.3 Settings & Preferences

Your theme selection, model preferences, and other settings are stored locally in the same database.

2.4 Project Files

Files you attach to conversations are stored in your local project folders:

~/ClawPad/Projects/[project-id]/

3. Data Sent to Third Parties

When you use ClawPad, certain data is sent to AI providers to generate responses:

3.1 AI Provider APIs

When you send a message, the following is transmitted to your selected AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google):

  • Your message content
  • Conversation context (recent messages)
  • Attached file contents (if any)
  • System prompts

This data is sent directly from your device to the AI provider. ClawPad does not intercept, store, or process this data on any server. Please review each provider's privacy policy:

3.2 OpenClaw Gateway (Optional)

If you use OpenClaw Gateway mode, your messages are processed through the locally-running OpenClaw Gateway on your machine (port 18789). This gateway also stores data locally and does not transmit data to external servers beyond the AI providers.

4. Download Registration (Optional)

When downloading ClawPad, you may optionally provide:

  • Name and email address
  • Company/organization
  • Role and use case
  • Country

This information is used solely for:

  • Sending important product updates (if opted in)
  • Understanding our user base to improve the product

You can skip this registration entirely and still download ClawPad.

5. Cookies & Tracking

The ClawPad website uses minimal cookies:

  • Essential cookies — For basic website functionality
  • No tracking cookies — We don't use Google Analytics or similar services
  • No advertising cookies — We don't show ads or track for advertising

6. Data Security

We implement the following security measures:

  • Encryption at rest — API keys encrypted with Fernet (AES-128-CBC)
  • Machine-specific keys — Encryption keys derived from hardware identifiers
  • Local storage — No cloud servers to breach
  • HTTPS — All API communications use encrypted connections

7. Your Rights

Since your data is stored locally, you have complete control:

  • Access — Your data is in ~/ClawPad/, fully accessible
  • Delete — Delete the folder to remove all data
  • Export — Export conversations as markdown or PDF
  • Portability — Copy your project folders to another machine

8. Children's Privacy

ClawPad is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
